During my first college writing class, my professor encouraged me to write for the school newspaper. Being an introvert, I resisted and resisted (Me interview people? No, thanks.) but luckily, my prof persisted, and I ultimately found that the enjoyment of writing features and profiles more than made up for the “talking to strangers” part of the assignment.
After graduation, I took a job as an editorial assistant at Family Circle where I had the opportunity to learn from some of the most accomplished editors in the magazine industry. While working on one of FC’s spin-off publications, I got to meet Mary Higgins Clark which was a huge fangirl moment (she was funny, kind, and humble, btw). I later moved on to an associate editor position at Child before becoming a senior editor at LHJ.com.
After nearly a decade as a staff editor, I made the leap to freelance writing and editing. Since then, I’ve contributed to more than 40 print and digital publications including Real Simple, Apartment Therapy, Better Homes and Gardens, Bridal Guide, Scholastic, Parents, and Woman’s Day. I co-authored the book “New Etiquette for Today’s Bride,” and I’ve created content for corporate clients from national retailers to healthcare companies. I’ve also edited a diverse list of nonfiction books, helping experts in various disciplines share their expertise with readers in a compelling way. More recently, I’ve begun to try my hand at writing fiction with a picture book manuscript I’m polishing (inspired—and approved—by my youngest child) and a mystery/suspense novel I'm really excited about.
When I’m not working, I while away the hours spectating middle school sports games, spamming my teens with Instagram reels of health and safety tips, plotting our next family trip (fave destination so far: Tuscany), bookmarking healthy recipes I’ll never end up making because cooking—ugh, and adding to the TBR tower on my nightstand and my Kindle of books I’ll definitely end up devouring because reading—yay!
